Last Leaf Take Over
7th September 2018 - 6th October 2018
This September Lotte Inch Gallery is going to see a temporary transformation from art gallery to custom-made furniture store
After a busy summer we are handing over the gallery to make way for furniture designer Sam Parkin, of Last Leaf, who will be taking over with a pop-up shop to show and sell his exquisite handmade furniture.
Last Leaf, who have previously exhibited in the gallery alongside artist Tom Wood, specialize in bespoke and non-traditional hand crafted wood furniture including benches, plant stands, display tables and smaller items such as serving boards. Many of the pieces possess an eclectic mix of simplistic Scandi design and more charismatic, almost musical elegance which is perhaps testament to Sam’s training as a guitar maker at the London College of Furniture. Above all it is Sam’s unique appreciation for his material which comes across in Last Leaf’s designs, with even the smallest item being created to make the most of the grain and individual markings within the wood before being treated with oils, never varnish, to maximize this effect. Not only will Sam be exhibiting his latest designs he will also be in the gallery most days giving practical demonstrations of how he creates his masterpieces.
Last Leaf have a number of signature designs but what truly lights this wood-workers fire is the bespoke projects he is commissioned to create. “The one-off pieces are just that, one-off. The clients own vision brought to life with a methodical design process and traditional, time honoured cabinet making skills” Sam Parkin of Last Leaf.
During the period of the Last Leaf Takeover, Lotte Inch gallery will still operate from their online store and will formally reopen the gallery 12th October with an exhibition by York based artist Steve Williams.
