Kathryn Sherriff makes fine porcelain work from her studio in South London. After a career in teaching and a background in fine arts, Sherriff joined the London Potters in 2014 and has never looked back. Today she carries out her own work whilst fulfilling large commissions for the likes of McQueens florists. She works from a small studio at the bottom of her garden, backing onto the train line – the inspiration for her online business name – By the Line Pottery.
Sherriff’s ceramics are handmade, wheel thrown porcelain pottery, designed for everyday functional use in the home. They are often inspired by her love of mid century modern design whilst a hint of her fondness for the British Coastline can also be identified.
After throwing her pots, each piece is biscuit fired, glazed and then high fired in an electric kiln to 1280 degrees. This means that they are food safe, dishwasher safe, oven proof and stain resistant.
