Emily Sutton is a North Yorkshire based artist and illustrator whose work is brilliantly influenced by the Yorkshire landscape and countryside, as well as the peculiar, curious and wonderful objects often discovered in antique shops, museums and galleries. Sutton studied at York College, then completed her BA in Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art in 2008. Her lifelong love of drawing and painting is evident in her detailed works which stems from an influence of twentieth century illustrators such as Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious.

Sutton works with a range of different mediums such as painting, prints, drawing and hand sculpted objects. She has notably been commissioned by various distinguished clients such as Hermes, Betty’s Tearooms, and Penguin. In 2011, Sutton won the Elle Decoration British Design Award for her Curiosity Shop fabric for St. Jude’s. Sutton has gone on to illustrate for numerous children’s books by Nicola Davis and the V&A commissioned Sutton to illustrate Clara Button and the Magical Hat Day by Amy de la Haye.

In 2014-2015 Emily Sutton’s largest solo exhibition Town and Country was displayed at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. She has also exhibited at Godfrey and Watt in Harrogate, Zillah Bell Gallery in Thirsk, and often exhibits during York Open Studio’s.
